Disoriented
Wednesday Sept 14
As I start to write this I'm looking at the date and wondering where yesterday went. I last wrote on Monday and now its Wednesday yet I'm all up to date. The plane trip over was pleasant enough but none of us really got any sleep. After our afternoon nap yesterday Mark commented how it doesn't seem like we've only been here a day. Jason answered "What are you talking about, we just got here this afternoon."
Yesterday, the 13th, was Bryan's birthday and we basically missed it, it was like we skipped the whole day and it went from Monday right to Wednesday. One long sleepless day of travel.
After long naps we got up last night and went out to see a little of the town. It reminds me a lot of new York City, in fact it IS like New York City. Its a big city. Lots of tall buildings and traffic and people everywhere. The roads are lined with shops and restaurants and people people people. Oh and dogs, people and dogs and people on bikes and people everywhere. Did I mention all the people? lol Most of the T-Shirts people are wearing are in English and enough English is spoken its not much like being out of the Country. Of course the architecture is amazing. How many times will we all repeat the phrase, "They don't make things like that anymore".
Last night we walked down one of the most well known "musts sees" in Barcelona, La Ramblas, "The most famous street in Barcelona". La Ramblas is an over a 1 KM tree lined, pedestrian street in central Barcelona. We arrived not long before dusk and it was certainly busy, it was filled with entertainers and kiosks selling all sort of trinkets and souvenirs for the tourists and local goods as well, plants and flowers and food, lots of food. Half the walk is made up of sidewalk restaurants. We chose one with a good flavor of local cuisine. All the restaurants were pushing their signature drinks in huge mugs which appeared to hold a liter of your alcoholic beverage of choice. I wondered how many times a night the policemen heard the line, "But I only had one drink officer".
After dinner we stumbled back to our apartment and called it a night. or a day. I'm not sure if it was the 'one' drink or the lack of sleep but whatever time it was or whatever day, it was time for another nap.
